What is the purpose of this role in the delivery of our mission?
As a Transaction Monitoring Analyst, you will play a vital role in protecting the integrity of our payments platform by identifying and independently investigating suspicious activities across fiat and cryptocurrency transactions. Your work will ensure we meet regulatory obligations, prevent financial crime, and support our company’s mission to maintain a secure and trusted environment for our customers and partners.
What are the key responsibilities / activities of the role?
Transaction Monitoring: Conduct daily monitoring and review of fiat and cryptocurrency transactions to detect unusual or potentially suspicious activity in accordance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
Alert Investigation & Screening: Investigate alerts (including CR tickets, Adverse Media, and Sanctions alerts) by analyzing transactional behavior, performing wallet screening (e.g., using Chainalysis), assessing patterns, and determining the legitimacy and attribution of flagged activities.
Policy Enforcement & Fund Action: Ensure adherence to sanctions policy, including processing auto-refunds for specific sanctions (OFAC and Iranian sanctions) and following the process for other sanctions (EU sanctions go to MLRO).
Suspicious Activity Reporting & Escalation: Proactively escalate high-risk findings and prepare detailed reports, including internal/external SARs. Directly escalate specific compliance issues to MLROs via dedicated Slack channels for both fiat and crypto compliance.
Data Analysis & Reporting: Extract and analyze transaction data (e.g., deposits from crypto accounts) to identify emerging trends. Contribute to TM monthly reports detailing transactions, rejects , SARs , RFIs sent/received , and banking partner requests.
Cross-Team Collaboration: Collaborate with compliance and MLROs to support investigations, share findings, and process Requests for Information (RFI) with CS.
Industry and Regulatory Awareness: Stay informed about regulatory updates, financial crime trends, and best practices in transaction monitoring across fiat and cryptocurrency sectors.
Record Keeping: Maintain detailed, accurate records of investigations, decisions to release , and escalations.
Ad-hoc Support: Provide additional support to the compliance team as needed
What are the essential skills, qualifications and experience required for the role?
You have at least 2+ years of professional experience in a similar role, preferably with Banking and FinTech Industries and experience in merchant underwriting and risk with a merchant processor/acquirer, payment facilitator or SaaS provider.
Transaction Monitoring Systems Expertise: Experience working with leading transaction monitoring systems for fiat and cryptocurrency, including the ability to utilize tools like Chainalysis and SumSub.
Analytical & Investigative Skills: Strong ability to analyse transactional data, assess patterns, and identify potential financial crime risks, with the capacity to work efficiently under time-sensitive conditions.
Regulatory & AML Knowledge: Solid understanding of AML, CTF, and sanctions regulations, particularly those relevant to digital assets (e.g., OFAC , EU Sanctions ).
Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail when assessing transactions and documenting findings, ensuring compliance with internal and external standards.
Communication & Reporting: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to draft clear, concise reports and present findings to internal teams and stakeholders.
What are the desirable skills, qualifications and experience that would be beneficial for the role?
Availability: Be available for night shifts or on-call rotation to ensure 24/7 global compliance coverage.
Education: Degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field.
Certifications: CAMS, CFE, or relevant blockchain/crypto certifications.
Data Analysis Proficiency: Competency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, SQL, Metabase ) to support transaction analysis and investigative work.
Cryptocurrency Knowledge: Familiarity with blockchain technology, cryptocurrency transaction flows, and the financial crime risks associated with digital assets.
Fraud Detection Experience: Experience in fraud detection or other investigative roles within the financial services or payments industry.
