What is the purpose of this role in the delivery of our mission?
The Deputy MLRO (Gib) will play a vital role in effectively and proactively handling the company’s Financial Crime Compliance (FCC) matters, developing our business relationships internally and externally across all verticals, as well as enhancing our FCC strategy and wider compliance risk management frameworks.
What are the key responsibilities / activities of the role?
Deputise for the MLRO (Gib) for the company’s Gibraltar entity (EMI and DLT)
Support with all FCC related matters across the group, including representing the MLRO (Gib) and/or the Compliance function in various stakeholder meetings/calls
Review and approve client’s CDD/EDD reports prepared by the Onboarding and Transactions teams
Prepare reports on various matters for review and sign-off by the MLRO when needed
Review and advise on high-risk transaction monitoring alerts (both fiat and cryptoassets related) that are generated by various monitoring systems/tools and/or escalated to FCC as such
Assess and escalate suspicious activity-related alerts, conduct enhanced due diligence (EDD) where required, before escalation to the MLRO for a decision, and submit SARs as delegated by the MLRO
Monitor in-house and 3rd party provided FCC systems/tools, and leverage open-source intelligence to identify and assess risks associated with clients and their transactions
Utilise and develop your knowledge of FCC-related red flags, emerging typologies, evolving industry trends, and best practices, and share such knowledge with the wider Compliance team
Review complex clients’ profiles and transactions alerts, which may require subject matter expertise and granular-level risk analysis
Oversee and collaborate with the Onboarding and Operations teams, providing FCC subject matter expertise and support, including research on risk indicators, CDD/EDD techniques, evaluation of high-risk products and services, ID&V systems, and other AML operational matters
Assist the MLRO and the Compliance team with the drafting and updating of internal policies, procedures and guidelines
What is the scope of accountability for the role?
Review and approve clients’ CDD/EDD applications at the onboarding stage and assess their periodic review outcomes
Review high-risk client profiles, transactions, and payment flows and make risk-based recommendations/decisions
Work closely with the Onboarding, Operations and Client Services teams to ensure regulatory compliance and effective risk mitigation
Take on more accountability before eventually stepping into the MLRO position for Gibraltar
What are the essential skills, qualifications and experience required for the role?
You have experience in an FCC / Compliance function as a Senior Manager, Deputy MLRO, or MLRO
You have professional work experience in Financial Services, Payments/Emoney, and Cryptoasset sectors – e.g. Fintechs, Digital Banking, Crypto Exchange/Custodian
You are qualified with the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (ACAMS), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), and/or have relevant legal qualification
You have experience working with FCC-related technologies and transaction monitoring systems, such as World-Check, TruNarrative, Chainalysis, Elliptic, Sumsub, or ComplyAdvantage
You have a deep understanding of financial crime risk indicators, fraud typologies, and transaction laundering techniques
You have strong working knowledge of UK, EU (EEA), and global anti-financial crime regulations, including AML/CTF laws, industry guidelines, and enforcement actions
You have an excellent understanding of financial crime risks, control frameworks, and best practices for financial crime risk management
You have strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft and present reports, policy updates, and regulatory submissions to regulators, MLROs, and senior leadership
You are detail-oriented and analytical, with the ability to maintain a broad risk perspective while continually challenging existing processes
You are a well-organised, proactive self-starter, able to prioritise effectively and adapt to a fast-paced regulatory environment
